Opus means “work,” as in the Magnum Opus (the Great Work) of Alchemy. This piece is a compilation of five mixed-media paintings that I made in June-July 2018. I created a textured painting with a gradient. I scanned the painting into the computer and based each work on the symbols of the four stages of the alchemical process. “Opus” is the assemblage of those five pieces, displaying all the stages of alchemy in one piece: nigredo, albedo, citrinitas, and rubedo.

This Mixed Media self-portrait depicts conscious and unconscious mind: 2/3 is full of alchemical imagery that represent the unconscious, the top 1/3 is a golden field, representing the conscious mind. The term “golden understanding” refers to alchemy (Jung, CW 12, para. 381, or Jung on Alchemy 65).

The Trump Regime, 24x36, Mixed Media on art board, 2018.

This piece is a U.S. flag made out of a collage/assemblage of elements. The field of 50 stars is a painting of the nighttime sky with a photo of a chain link fence over it, commenting that the American dream has been fenced off. The red stripes of the flag are made out of children’s hand prints (my own children), representing the children separated from their parents at the U.S./Mexico border. The white stripes are made out of a collage of the following: Trump tweets; Declassified House Republicans’ Russia investigation memo; Declassified House Democrats’ Russia investigation rebuttal memo; the 29-page indictment of 12 Russians the Mueller investigation made on July 13, 2018; and a news article from 2018 about the family separations at the U.S./Mexico border

Antifa, 24x36, Mixed Media, 2018. Antifa series.

“Antifa” refers to the movement of anti-fascist activist groups in America, based on earlier European movements/groups. This piece is based on three Antifa art pieces I made in September 2017, less than one month after the neo-Nazi and Antifa clashed in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is a compilation of mini-sized posters of those original digital pieces. The saying on the central one is based on William Shakespeare’s line, “Once more unto the breach, dear friends.” Another is based on Princess Leia’s famous line from Star Wars (1977): “Help me, Obi-wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.” The third statement is based on the idea that political action must happen.

Manifold, 11x17, Mixed Media, 2018. This piece was published in 2018 in Between Literary Journal, vol. 21, p. 58. This piece began as a drawing for a book I was doing back in 2007 based on the lyrics of Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall," specifically the line: "And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it". Redrawn for Between Literary Journal as a vertical, portrait-style piece.

Blue Flower, 11x17, Mixed Media, 2018. This piece was published in 2018 in Between Literary Journal, vol. 21, p. 46. This piece was based on the rose that I drew for "Ode to a Deer" (published 2017, Cosmos & Logos, vol. III). I recreated the rose using a watercolor paint swatch that I made years ago. The design in the background is a traditional Islamic girih ("knot"). For info, see link in comments.

I also published three poems! “What Should I Tell You?”, “Lament, 5778 (2017)”, and “Mandalic Grace”. Please see carousel below.
